Udates on current students

Filed under: Uncategorized — dave at 3:39 pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2009

I just wanted to update you on some of the students that took advantage of the recent discounted rates I sent out last month.

The most recent student from Forest Lake MN., came down for a week. He has trained with me for the last 3 years on tour when I stop in his area. He had 3 inverts and a few spins including a Heelside 5. In 3 days he doubled his inverts and added a new spin. I called his local dealer who happens to be Forest Lake Motorsports. They are a Liquid Force dealer. We called the Mid west Rep for Liquid and just like that, he now has a Board sponsor!

His name is Blake Carpenter. Back ground in Gymnastics and incredible air sense. He gets his flights for free so wants to come down every 2 weeks throughout the Winter. I think I may be able to get him to a pro level by then.

Another shinning star, Dan,  who came down last year from Ohio, then met me on tour while I was in Ohio. came down for 3 weeks this November. he was a very basic rider still working on Clearing the wake and his 4 base 180’s. He now has 2 solid flips. Back side 180’s and a toe side 3 to blind. He is on the cusp of 3 new inverts including Scarecrow, Switch Roll and Half Cab roll. In three weeks from beginner to this level is a huge accomplishment.

I also have a kid coming down the 17th for 2 weeks from Ohio who learned 2 new Mobius tricks while I was there this Summer. (which are flips with 360’s for those that have no idea what I’m talking about)

One other kid from MI. Alex, will be coming down with hopes of getting on tour. I’ll keep you posted on their accomplishments.

Wakeboarding Mag has done a feature story on my life that just went to print. It should be showing up very soon.

Hope your Winter is going great. Happy Holidays.

BTW it’s 85 and Sunny here today.

H2O Extreme

Well the long awaited movie I had my acting debut in has finally been released. Although it was thought it was going to Theaters it ended up going straight to DVD. I watched it for the first time in Wisconsin with a few students from the day. The final copy came out alot better than I could have imagined. I ended up with many more scenes than I was originally suppose to have. It’s a great family comedy suitable for all ages. It was so much fun to do and an amazing experience. Thabks to my long time friend Bill Sharf for hooking me up in this film, which was also his Directing debut. There are some amazing stunts in this film with some great riding as well. including a toe 9 from Tino Santori. and many other first time acts. I do have DVD’s available for $20. Contact me if you need me to send you a copy.

Talk to you soon.

on the road

Hey everyone.
Sorry I’ve been so horable at updates on the blog. I have started posting my bi-weekly updates on the home. Page though. So you can see whats new there as well. The tour is going well with just a few hitches here and there. The slide out motors on the bus failed while i was in Greenville,IL. But i found a local Shop that fixed them up under warrentee. Then the refridgerator died on me last week. So I’m dealing with that now. I have someone lined up to work on it this week but it’s tough with my stops booked so tight. Just part of the road. You definately have to learn to roll with the punches. My knee’s are doing pretty good, the right one still has a little pain but I’m making some of my old stuff everytime i ride. The main problem now is my right shoulder. I got diagnosed last year with a 3/4 tear in my sub scap, but doc said i could rehab it, which i did during the Winter. Well i think i messed it up again barefooting in Greenville on fathers day with my son Chad.
But I’m still riding, got my raley’s and whirly’s back but the slurpee hurts the shoulder. Kind of a bummer cause i wanted to go compete in pro vet at nationals. But just don’t have enough back yet.
Chad is starting to ride good though. He’s got a huge front roll and back roll. And his basics are getting really solid.
I’ll try to get on here more but in the meantime check out the tour updates on the home page.
Hesitation leads to pain

Wake Games at OWC

Filed under: Uncategorized — dave at 10:14 pm on Thursday, May 7, 2009

WakeGames just passed and it was the unofficial kick off to this years season. It was a great oppertunity for my students to get a taste of where they stand for this years tour. If you’ve been following the blogs on the site of Andy and Jordan (Gilligan) you’ve known they have been training hard for this years season. Unfortunately for Gilligan he had an injury the week before the tourny. It is sad since he was completely ready for this event. Andy as well was ready and had his run more than 80% ready.

Andy had an unfortunate early fall that left him cut from advancing. The beatiful thing was they both got to see their competition over the weekend. They did learn that they do have enough to compete with the big boy’s. All this in just 2 seasons of training at Briscoe’s Ride Center.

Some of my other riders did very well. Phil Aslinger got his first podium finish in Junior Pro. Congrats to Phil. Also Zane, JD, Derek and Shane all rode great.

Brian Hutton finished in the top ten last year which gave him seating into the finals.

In total more than half the riders all weekend have trained at Briscoe’s Ride Center at one time or another. It was like old home week and they all made and make me proud to be their coach. My knee is almost healed and I should be able to start riding in a few weeks. I’m looking forward to giving the Pro Veterans division a shot this summer.

Talk to you soon,

Dave
